2 Samuel 8: The Lord gave David victory wherever he went
Why did God give David victories wherever he went?
The Lord continues to bless David and Israel with military victories. These are no longer merely defensive battles that preserve Israel from her enemies, but David expands the borders of Israel through conquest. He defeats the Philistines, the Moabites, the king of Zobah, the Arameans, and the Edomites. The great plunder from these wars David dedicates to the Lord, thus amassing the hoard of precious metals that will later be used by Solomon in building the temple.
David’s officials include military leaders, governors, and secretaries.
One jarring note is that David appoints his sons as priests. Has David begun to overstep his boundaries by appointing his sons priests when they are not Levites?
Generous God, teach us gratitude.
